Black Scorpion
Black Scorpion is a short lived action TV series on the Sci-Fi Channel starring the gorgeous Michelle Lintel, premiered last January 1, 2001 and ended in June 1, 2001 with 22 episodes. The series is based on Roger Corman’s “Black Scorpion” movie. It is not a comic book character adapted to film, but an original superheroine created by Roger Corman himself in the tradition of 1990s comic book superheroes.
The superheroine, the Black Scorpion fights crime by night and becomes police detective by day. She is beautiful, sexy and highly intelligent, and she has great martial-arts skills and a rapier wit. Black Scorpion combines science-fiction fantasy, Hong Kong-style martial arts and high-speed action with comic-book humor and lots of sexiness.
The show is a cross on the old Batman TV series, with a modern update and enough twists to make it very unique and loads fun for the entire family. The mystery guest stars turn out to be cult hero Adam West (famed as TV's Batman in the 1960s) and Frank Gorshin.
Black Scorpion History
In the City of Angels, crime is at an all time high. The
police, bound by rules and regulations and a corrupt mayor, are unable to stop
it. Darcy Walker is a police officer, with a history of personal tragedy. The murder of her policeman father by a notorious supervillain named
Breathtaker, gave her the drive to assume another identity and transforms
herself into a superheroine called Black Scorpion.
Darcy’s mother left her family when Darcy was quite young because she could not handle her husband’s job. So she and her father lived alone since she was a little girl and she grew wanting to be a cop like her father because she was exposed to his work then. But when his father accidentally shot Dr. Noah Goddard during a hostage situation, he lost his credibility and job, and became a security guard instead.
The doctor’s life was spared at the hospital but to a great discomfort. His brain was fried and he also lost his career and everything. He became mad and rebuilt his self as a robotic-looking villain, the Breathtaker.
Twenty years later, Darcy became an undercover cop like her father. Her father was destined to die exactly on her birthday when the district attorney shot and killed him in the bar and died instantly with no reasons at all. The suspect who later claims himself to be innocent was under the orders of Breathtaker as they found out that the villain is brainwashing people with asthma, and putting something in their inhalers to turn them crazy.
Obviously upset, Darcy threatens the district attorney in his cell and gets suspended for her actions. Finding that she could not get justice for his father within the system, Darcy decides it is time to stop criminals, her way. With a little help from an ex car-thief, she creates her own weapons, a disguise, and a super powered car, she becomes the costumed vigilante - the Black Scorpion. Her father always told her the story about the scorpion on the frog's back and how in his nature to sting others, even it meant his own doom.
Thereafter, whenever a super-powered threat endangered the City of Angels, the Black Scorpion would be there to save the day. Her life was made more complicated because the insane but benign Dr. Phoenix had an annoying habit of resurrecting her dead foes, though he did redeem himself somewhat by eventually resurrecting her father too.
Black Scorpion's Alter Ego
The Black Scorpion's real name is Darcy Walker,
played by Michelle Lintel. She lives in the City of Angels, a comic-book parallel
to Los Angeles.
By day, Black Scorpion is Darcy, a policewoman, driving a white Corvette. By night, she becomes Black Scorpion and her Corvette morphs into the “Scorpion mobile”, a super-charged futuristic car equipped with an arsenal of science-fiction devices.
The Black Scorpion Costume
As well as being a fantasy superheroine Black
Scorpion, Darcy Walker is also a fantasy cop. While in costumed mode she looks
absolutely fantastic, she is just as distractingly fabulous as an Angel City
police detective, dressed to kill in tight miniskirts and gratuitously low-cut
tops. For crime-fighting costume changes, the heroine slips her sexy black
leather and boots with mask to cover her identity.
Special Powers, Abilities and Weapons Used
Apart from being an excellent hand-to-hand
fighter and an expert with computers, Black Scorpion has no superpowers.
However, she uses her crime-solving skills, her martial-arts prowess, and has
access to a large assortment of weapons and gadgets. Her ring can emit a blinding
light. Her best known weapon is the black Porsche "Scorpion mobile",
a high-tech car outfitted with a variety of gadgets - among them the ability to
change its appearance to look like a normal car (a Corvette) when Darcy was in
her civilian identity.
